Smith & Smith Kitchens Project 2
For the next project, the homeowners requested a working and entertaining environment in the form of a European ‘hideaway kitchen’. Simple, clean lines are off-set by a striking wall of grain-matched Macarena veneer.
The clients had a well-established floor plan when they came to Smith & Smith Kitchens. The clients then worked with the company’s designer Valentin Tinc to refine their concept and make their kitchen dream a reality.
Hawa Turnaway System bi-fold pocket sliding doors conceal the cooking zone, while the fridges have been integrated into the wood-grain cabinetry to create an uncluttered area. Two ovens have also been integrated into the cabinetry, with mirrored glass doors giving them the appearance of digital screens.
To achieve a consistent, streamlined appearance, there are no handles on the doors and drawers. Instead, rebated handle grips have been machined into the door and drawer faces.
The cook has everything within easy reach in this kitchen. The main sink and hot plate are concealed in the cooking alcove, with the Liebherr refrigerator and freezer within close proximity. The dishwasher has been seamlessly integrated into one side of the ‘Glacier White’ Corian waterfall-edge island bench.
Smith & Smith Kitchens has worked around the architectural challenge of an alcove kitchen by designing it as a recess into the clients’ garage. In keeping with the clean design of the kitchen, the alcove benchtop has been crafted from white Lithostone and incorporates a Starfire glass splashback featuring a custom-mixed white backing paint.
