JKG Building Project 2
Boasting all the stunning heritage features Melburnians know and love, this Victorian terrace in the heart of Flemington gives a modern twist to a stunning period home. Designed by Nicholas Wright and constructed by JKG Building, the clever design effectively makes the most of the narrow space, simultaneously bringing an abundance of natural light through soaring ceilings and elegant shades of white.
The homeowners were after a comfortable home that included all the luxuries of modern living, while still retaining the abode’s heritage features. In order to deliver this vision, JKG Building set to work by stripping the property back to its bare roots, renovating and adding an extension for outdoor enjoyment.
Travelling through a sleek black front door, and passing elegant, traditional arched doorways, the abode’s interior is the perfect blend of traditional and modern. At the centre of the abode, a sleek white kitchen sits atop gorgeous polished stone flooring. Crisp, bright joinery makes simple storage solutions, while the expansive space – thanks to a clever extension – forms the perfect hub for dining among friends and family.
The original Victorian features of the dwelling are abundant all throughout the home – from traditional fireplaces to elegant stain glass windows. Such features also flow through to the abode’s modern extension, with sliding glass doors from the dining area leading out to a neatly manicured outdoor space. Giving a nostalgic nod to a time gone by, the traditional red bricks seen on the extension also help to retain a sense of period-style charm in an incredible inner-city location.
