For this project, the clients requested a home with open-plan living spaces that included discrete work areas, a large garage, guest accommodation, a main bedroom suite with an accompanying balcony, as well as accommodation for their energetic dogs.
The new design was expertly crafted to achieve a wide northern frontage with a towering feature entry. The impressive 6.5 m-high entrance colonnade to the north side anchors the entryway, which leads into a grand stairwell atrium.
Incorporating sustainable features into the design without sacrificing on style was also a top priority. The house is virtually self-sustaining, with all of the electricity being generated by the roof-mounted German-made solar panels. The panels sit flush with the roof and are also cleverly hidden behind the bevelled feature cedar fascia boards. Together, the flat roof with wide overhangs and the fascias produce a layered effect, which not only help manage sun exposure, but perfectly complements the limestone cladding.
The resulting property features a lavish, spacious design, plenty of natural light and captures the breathtaking views of the surrounding reserve. The team at McLauchlan Building Designers worked closely with the builder, Hedger Constructions, to provide support in the build process and help develop the intricate design details.
There were a number of challenges the designer needed to overcome to create this striking home, such as obtaining a planning approval to remove the existing vegetation and working with a moderate slope. Taking advantage of the northern solar rays, the expansive façade and alfresco entertaining areas were positioned to maximise the views of the reserve and to protect the home and its occupants from harsh sunlight.
Thanks to the team at McLauchlan Building Designers, a fresh new home has been designed, which includes luxurious features such as sliding bi-fold solid timber doors, a custom built-in bookcase under the stairs, as well as an expansive rear deck that faces the parkland, making it the perfect place to relax or entertain family and friends.
Powerful, sleek lines and high-quality architecture guarantee that this house will stand the test of time – a home for the ages.
