Start Strong to Finish Stronger: Pane-less Planning with a Panoramic View of all the Important Details
In the past, a ‘finished home’ build wasn’t really finished. There was a never-ending list of additions, lights and windows and automations and trims that had to be
added. But today’s homebuilders search for ‘turnkey’ home solutions, where a finished home build means it’s ready to be lived in. Achieving this result takes smart planning, and a good team. Melbourne Home Design + Living’s Belinda Coleman sits down with Ryan Crosby, Director of Rytex Window Furnishings, to discuss these changes in the industry and what they mean for homeowners and industry professionals alike.
Rytex Window Furnishings is a third-generation, Australian-made manufacturer specialising in premium, custom made window furnishings and outdoor shading solutions. They design, manufacture, supply and install bespoke curtains, blinds, shutters and integrated shading solutions. All their products are locally made
in their facilities, right here in Melbourne. Crosby promises that the focus is on “craftsmanship, performance, and delivering considered solutions that seamlessly integrate with the home’s aesthetic and architectural build.”
For Rytex, delivering liveable turnkey homes is a high priority and one Rytex has shaped their entire business model around. Crosby says that clients, builders, architects and designers are all looking for “greater certainty, smoother timelines, and fewer compromises late in the build.” Rytex has noticed and responded to the need for earlier, more structured collaboration.
STARTING STRONG WITH A PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
Rytex realised that end-to-end involvement is best for high-quality, effective results. Where window furnishings used to be put in last, limiting what clients could do creatively, Rytex believes in being involved from the start, providing expert solutions to the designers and clients.
Crosby and the team at Rytex, created a partnership program to help them deliver awe inspiring finishes to their clients. The partnership program, according to Crosby, is designed to “create strong, long-term relationships with builders, architects, interior designers and developers who value quality and process.”
Before the partnership program the team noticed recurring project challenges around timing, coordination, structural requirements and automation specification. According to Crosby “The program brings together like-minded professionals who want a more streamlined, transparent and design-led approach.”
Through the partnership program everyone is receiving collaborative input from concept through to installation, ensuring that window and shading solutions are delivered seamlessly. Crosby says that all “partners receive early technical input, priority production scheduling, dedicated project support” as well as access to Rytex’s design studio.
FINISHING STRONGER WITH COLLABORATION
Crosby explains that “early collaboration eliminates guesswork.” While to many people window furnishings might seem like a finishing touch, Crosby maintains that “window furnishings affect power planning, glazing, recess depths, ceiling details and automation integration.” Additionally, external shading options on windows require proper support to be built in at the start. When these elements are all fully considered and planned for, Crosby says “the result is a cleaner build, fewer variations, and a more cohesive final outcome for the client.”
For Rytex, the changes have been noticeable. It’s shifted their process from reactive to proactive, providing better solutions early on, and having to handle fewer on-site complications. This has led to strengthened project management processes and better efficiency within the company.
Crosby sums it up best when he says, “Window furnishings and shading solutions are no longer an afterthought, they’re an integral part of how a home looks, feels and functions. When they’re considered early and executed properly, they elevate the entire build. That’s what we aim to deliver on every project.”
REAL TIME PRODUCT TESTING AT THE STUDIO
In addition to their partnership program, Rytex has also opened their second design studio as recently as 2024 to enable “stronger engagement from both clients and industry partners.” The studio provides a real-time space where the clients can see and test the products. Crosby states that the studio “supports clearer decision-making, reduces uncertainty, and strengthens relationships by bringing design conversations into a tangible, hands-on space.”
Clients feel more confident when they see it in front of them, but Crosby has also noticed that partners are better able to understand the possibilities offered by Rytex when they see it in person. As a result, Crosby’s future vision for the studio is to focus on “education, inspiration and deeper integration with the design and building community.” The team is planning expanded automation displays and dedicated partner collaboration sessions in their studios.
KEEPING IT LOCAL
With all this awesome stuff happening at Rytex, the team is still committed to keeping their products 100% Australian made and manufactured. With all products being crafted right here in Victoria, Rytex is able to offer superior quality and greater reliability.
While this can be challenging at times, it is a commitment Rytex stands by. The team have built long-term relationships with trusted local suppliers. Rytex also continuously invests in refining their processes and integrating high-level equipment and machinery to ensure sustainability, consistency and quality.
