Designed to accommodate the demands of a family spanning three generations, this stellar abode was constructed by RZ Owens, and designed by the talented team at VSDO. Understanding and respecting the common difference between each family member’s age group, while simultaneously facilitating the comfort and cosy atmosphere of living together under one big roof, VSDO set to work creating a modern and practical design with carefully-zoned bedroom and office spaces, alongside a large kitchen area with views to inspire.

Taking the clients’ requests into consideration, the home was strategically designed to excavate down into the ground, to gain a flat floor plan and provide ultimate ease-of-living for elderly grandparents. Travelling through custom-made metal gate, the home’s impressive front yard was designed with stepped landscape planters to ensure a tranquil feeling and to avoid appearing lower than the street level. Maintaining impressive standards for energy-efficiency, the home is complete with recycled rainwater for garden irrigation and toilet flushing, alongside under-slab hydronic heating with heated towel rails for ultimate comfort and warmth during the winter months.

For the young at heart, the home’s design encompasses individually coloured bedrooms, including a large playing area for children, and minimum steps to avoid potential falls. Meanwhile, carefully designed landscaping by CX Landscape frames the entire home, whereby all living spaces face beautifully manicured and lush greenery.

Bringing natural light in from morning until afternoon, the dwelling’s two courtyards located on each side of the property are a practical and stylish addition, able to function as a meditation courtyard, or even an entertainment alfresco. Boasting a decadent wine cellar for a wine-loving parent, this VSDO home has been designed with every last detail in mind, and delivers a magnificent modern finish to suit every age and stage of life.
