OFF-GRID LUXURY

Twomey Homes’ latest project is the perfect example of solar oriented design – capturing the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and providing a highly functional, comfortable home. The concept design was provided by Shape Building Design. The brief described an off-grid home with a contemporary, nature-led aesthetic and advanced thermal performance, designed to showcase sweeping views of the countryside.

Rammed earth walls are implemented through majority of the exterior and featured in sections of the interior – utilised for their thermal performance and natural, contemporary look. Thermal-break window frames with double-glazed glass are used throughout, particularly along the entire northern elevation. Deep eave overhangs are also incorporated to shield the windows from excessive summer heat.

The home achieves impressive heights of sustainability. Rammed earth walls require less manufacturing and increase thermal performance, while the northern facing glazing creates thermal mass to the exposed concrete floor areas – creating less artificial heating reliance in colder months. The solar powered system ensures the home can run completely off grid without requiring a generator. The home is nothing short of an eco-friendly feat, displaying the mastery of Twomey Homes and the beauty of the surrounding country.
