ARCHITECTURAL HARMONY

This unique project blends historic roots with contemporary architecture, transforming old army barracks into a modern family residence. The client envisioned an expanded and reimagined home that offers generous space, warmth and functionality for a growing family, while thoughtfully preserving the historic character of the original barracks. Equally, they desired a connection to the surrounding bushland, durability balanced with aesthetic appeal, and a comfortable retreat.

Working with a sloping block and integrating the existing barracks required careful design solutions. The split-level construction addressed the site’s natural contours, while the glass hallway created a seamless transition between old and new. BAL 29 bushfire compliance also demanded robust material choices, which were met with thoughtful selections in cladding, glazing and design features. Energy-efficient windows and carefully considered shading were integrated to provide both comfort and resilience.

Generously sized bedrooms with built-in robes, dual living areas and a tiered outdoor deck expand the usable footprint of the home, ensuring every part of the site is optimised for family living and entertaining. From sleek standing seam cladding to luxurious handmade finishes, this home is both rich in character and perfectly suited to its function.
