This project expertly blends architectural sophistication, smart space utilisation and high-end finishes. SEMMbuild transformed an overgrown backyard into a luxurious, multi-functional oasis featuring a double-story garage and studio, and an innovative outdoor room. Premium materials along with advanced features highlight the project’s quality and innovation. Completed in just seven months, it showcases outstanding design, craftsmanship and project management.
The client desired to transform their backyard into a space that seamlessly integrates various elements for both relaxation and entertainment. The goal was to create a modern, cohesive environment that maximised the available space and allowed for year-round use. As you step from the balcony inside the single bedroom studio, you are met with stunning French oak flooring, a modern kitchenette with stone benchtops and embossed splashback tiling, and a modern bathroom with a built-in laundrette.
The double-storey garage and studio feature modern building materials, including American oak timber battens laid over the top of contrasting rendered walls around the façade of the building. The timber battens also run down the staircase on the outside of the building, turning the whole façade of the garage and studio into a stunning feature of the backyard. The stairs are cladded with ‘storm’ coloured granite steps and risers that lead up to an external balcony overlooking the tennis court and 25-metre raised swimming pool.
The outdoor room allows the family to entertain year-round thanks to an outdoor gas fireplace, built in TV and sound bar, built in ceiling speakers, LED lighting and retractable aluminium louvred roof. The louvred roof closes automatically when it senses rain and can be retracted fully when the sun is shining, making it the perfect addition to a Melbourne outdoor room. Overall, the project turns every corner of the backyard into a purposeful and elegant part of the home, making excellent use of vertical and horizontal space.
