For this project, the Camberwell-based clients knew what they had in mind when they first approached Capital Building Contractors to help realise their vision. The clients were determined to seek out the perfect extension and renovation services, and Capital Building Contractors rose to the challenge.

After speaking with Capital Building Contractors’ head designer, Dean Fillipin, the owners were happy to learn he could translate their vision into a design within their budget. After visiting the site, drafting the design and taking on board the clients’ requirements and suggestions, Capital Building Contractors planned a new home of generous proportions and flowing spaces that still maintained the existing 1920s bungalow style and feel.

Period details, as well as special finishes such as hardwood flooring, roofing, fretwork and veranda details, required extra attention from the company’s highly-skilled trades.

The existing single-storey house had a previous rear extension, which was partly re-used, but the layout needed to be revised to suit the orientation of the property. The kitchen, meals, family room and study were oriented to the rear yard and face north, with a generous veranda to provide shade and also let the light into the home. There is also a formal dining room, lounge/library and main bedroom with a vast walk-in wardrobe that leads to a generous en suite. Upstairs, three double bedrooms, a rumpus room and a large bathroom complete the home.

This was a complete makeover project for the team at Capital Building Contractors, with no surface left untouched. Re-stumping, straightening of old floors, walls, cladding, ceilings, doors and finishes were all re-worked to obtain the new-home finish that will make this 90-year-old home last for at least another 90 years.
