This contemporary kitchen, designed by Hitika Gupta and brought to life by Better Kitchens & Bathrooms, captures the perfect harmony between classic sophistication and modern functionality. At its heart lies the striking Taj Mahal natural stone benchtop and splashback, radiating a quiet luxury that enhances rather than dominates the space. The combination of shaker-style cabinetry and polished timber floors grounds the design in timeless tradition, while thoughtful contemporary details – such as the navy satin standalone bar and hidden appliance cabinetry – lend a fresh, refined edge. The result is a kitchen that feels elegant yet inviting, enduring yet effortlessly current.

The brief called for a bright, functional and elegant space that would feel timeless while seamlessly integrating with the home’s existing layout. The homeowners wanted to maximise natural light, add warmth and storage, and include modern comforts with subtle sophistication.

One of the biggest challenges was improving flow between the kitchen, dining and living areas. Originally, a dividing wall disrupted both light and functionality. After in-depth discussions, the team chose to remove the wall entirely – a decision that transformed the project. The open-plan design now allows cabinetry to extend further, while bi-fold sliding doors conceal small appliances to maintain clean, uninterrupted surfaces. The satin ink bar not only adds valuable storage but also anchors the space as a stylish focal point.

Sustainability played a central role throughout. The original timber floors were carefully restored, preserving character while minimising waste. Energy-efficient matte black appliances and a sensor-activated brass tap support eco-friendly living, while the use of durable, timeless materials ensures the kitchen will remain beautiful and functional for years to come.

Every element – from smart storage solutions to brass detailing and warm pendant lighting – reflects a vision that balances practicality with enduring style. The result is a kitchen that is as functional as it is beautiful, designed to stand the test of time.
