While the previous plain white kitchen of this home served the owner well for around 20 years, the brief this time around was to make a statement. 

The homeowner knew exactly what they wanted and is the kind of person to curate pieces with real intention with an understanding of colour, form and restraint. The direction was clear from the start: a subtle nod to Chinoiserie, with a palette that feels classic, not trendy – deep black cabinetry, silver detailing, and stone that carries a soft, silvery vein. 

The result looks compact, but powerful. Storage was of utmost importance, and the space was designed to work hard without looking busy. There’s a cleverly placed appliance cabinet that makes smart use of a tricky corner, so appliances come to you, not the other way around. The pantries are equipped with generous internal drawers that give you access to hard-to-reach spots at the back of the cabinet. 

The overall look is sleek with an integrated fridge and dishwasher, adding elevation by cladding the bulkhead so the cabinetry reads taller than it is. 

The monolithic island bench brings people in. It acts as a strong visual anchor that allows the room to gather while prep continues, making it the perfect kitchen for both everyday life and entertaining. 

The black two-pack has a hand-applied textured finish softens the velvet tones of the cabinetry, giving the kitchen depth without fuss. 

But the detail that really sets this kitchen off is the lighting. A double layer of lighting highlights the tiered upper cabinetry at the back of the kitchen and adds atmosphere after dark, practical but also quietly dramatic.
