This project from Jackson Dwellings & Co Pty Ltd, situated in the picturesque Macedon Ranges, is a unique design that balances modern features with mid-century elements. Inspired by twentieth-century, post-war American developer Joseph Eichler, the home brings the essence of the Californian beach to the Australian countryside – transporting those who enter back to the simple times of the 1970s.

The client’s brief was simple. They wanted to bring the natural elements of the landscape into the aesthetic of the home, combining accents of timber and stone with some black features to add drama and character. Natural light was also a prominent focus, with the goal to enhance its presence through indoor-outdoor integration. The team met these desires masterfully, assisting the client with their material selection and perfectly executing the build using high-quality, local trades and luxury materials and suppliers. In the interior, these include polished concrete in the colour ‘New York’ and custom light fittings from Little Anvil.

The floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that the beautiful views of Mt Macedon are maximised from every room. The home is placed at the front of the block, cleverly creating privacy from the neighbours whilst still incorporating a large indoor outdoor entertaining area and expansive backyard.
