This stunning home, built by Melbourne Home Builders in collaboration with Sketch Building Design, exemplifies excellence in both design and craftsmanship. The client’s brief was to create a forever home where they could raise their children and entertain family and friends around the pool, all while ensuring they could trust the team they were working with. Melbourne Home Builders met these requirements by showcasing their past projects and connecting the clients with previous homeowners, leaving the clients confident and reassured throughout the build.

Set on a sloping block with a north-facing backyard, the design pays homage to the home’s heritage features while introducing a sleek, modern extension. A standout feature is the striking circular skylight in the timber-lined ceiling, leading into an alfresco area. Inside, the rear room features a beautiful glass fireplace framed by Japanese tiles, while the living and dining spaces boast heated polished concrete floors.

Sketch Building Design’s split-level approach ingeniously adapts to the site’s slope, creating a seamless flow throughout the home. The extension’s flat roof minimises its impact on neighbouring properties. Despite challenges such as brittle brickwork, uneven floors and old timber windows, the team expertly blended old and new, achieving an exceptional result. The home incorporates eco-friendly features including double-glazed windows, insulation, solar panels and an EV charger, further advancing the client’s commitment to sustainability.
