Often referred to as the heart of the home, the kitchen is much more than just a space for cooking. It is the hub for daily life that is not only a functional space, but a reflection of the home’s personality, style and rhythm of those who live within. When designed correctly, the tone is set for the entire interior of a home, creating an environment that is both practical and pleasing.

The layout and orientation of a kitchen is crucial in influencing everything from the cooking experience to the way friends and family interact. It is a space that should be efficient and welcoming for connection, comfort and creativity. Optimal orientation starts with understanding the function of the space.

Traditionally, the work triangle—the relationship between the stove, sink and refrigerator—was key to kitchen design, ensuring that these critical points were positioned for the most efficient workflow. Although this concept has evolved over time, the importance of functionality in a kitchen remains paramount. The team at Drake Design believes a kitchen layout that allows for easy movement, thoughtful placement of appliances and reflects the users’ needs is essential to minimise clutter and maximise functionality and comfort.
