Minimalism has never looked so good. With matte black cabinets, bright white surfaces and a playful pink fridge, this kitchen stands out. The black polytec Ultramatt cabinets are very low sheen, creating an beautiful velvety aesthetic. With handleless doors, the easy-to-clean and fingerprint resistant cabinets have a bevel-and-rail profile. A laser edge almost watertight finish was applied to the edging to ensure the doors are less prone to water damage in a high use area.

Contrasting stunningly with the black, Smith & Smith Kitchens implanted bright white surfaces for the benchtops. Acrylic, solid surfaces provide cleaner, purer colours than engineered stone and are crystaline silica-free. For this reason, Meganite ‘Bright White’ was the obvious choice, as well as its durability. It can also be easily resurfaced if wear and tear become too heavy. The pink fridge sits beautifully amidst the black, captivating and eye-catching. The client saw it in a magazine and just had to have it and will be adding pops of this shade of pink throughout the rest of the home as they continue to renovate. A small kitchen needs clever storage solutions, and Smith & Smith Kitchens identified that the key in this home was to install deeper drawers wherever possible and to maximise use of the space available.

Tucking things away is essential to maintaining a minimalist profile, but it can also be a useful way of making the best use of space in a small kitchen. The bin was placed in a drawer under the sink with a plumbing drawer placed above it, enhancing accessibility and storage. This placement left all other areas available purely for the storage of kitchen items. Tucking the microwave into a cabinet near the cooktop allowed it to be out of sight and out of the way when not in use. On either side of the oven is a configuration of drawers and inner drawers enabling storage of spices, oils and other high use items needed while cooking with heat.
