Third Element Studio Project 5

Separating themselves from the crowd once more, Third Element Studio presents Wattle 19, a true masterpiece that has secured the team the BDAA Victoria Design Work Award for Alterations/Additions up to 500k. Originally inspired by the contemporary luxury of Palm Springs, this original mid-century home underwent a contemporary coastal extension and renovation. A major achievement of this design was the use of clever transitions and design work to simultaneously honour the original style and create a distinctly modern feel.

Designing such a space was not without its challenges, but in association with VECO Construction, the team overcame the irregularities in the block by angling the extension and opening up the living space in the process. This design choice created a greater connection of the interior to the outdoor entertaining areas. Recycled materials are used throughout, including brickwork, blockwork and timber.

The exposed rafters are now amongst the home’s most exquisite features. Glazed windows filter natural light into the abode and promote airflow. Natural finishes, including wood, leather and handmade tiles promotes an inviting holiday feel. Even on cold days, this design can warm your soul with interior designs that lean towards a rustic charm.
