FAMILY VALUES
AT HOME ON THE MORNINGTON PENINSULAWayne and Lynda Mercer established Lyndways Homes to supply homes of superior quality and design to clients along the Mornington Peninsula. With 34 years of practical experience and extensive knowledge of the building industry, Wayne has the expertise to design and build quality homes that are ideally suited to the region. As director, Wayne designs homes to suit specific client briefs, and in doing so, provides homes that are architecturally and aesthetically suited to the natural surrounds. Lyndways projects incorporate passive solar design principles and energy efficient systems to create sound living environments. Featured here are two separate homes built by Lyndways Homes. The home pictured above is situated in Flinders. The client’s brief required the home to relate well to the pool and include a studio to provide a tranquil setting for the owner’s passion for painting. It also had to encompass the views across the Nobbies at Westernport Bay. Wayne created a separate wing for the studio, ensuring it opened out to the pool and garden area and had sufficient south light. On entering the foyer you look straight down the full length of the pool with the family room and guest bedroom encapsulating the head of the pool. The bay views can be enjoyed from the kitchen, meals, living room and ensuite. The upper deck relates well to the upper living areas and envelopes the bay view. The home is built on a concrete slab with exterior linings of brick work and fibre cement sheeting with expressed joints and timber lines and eaves. Finishes to the interior include spotted gum floor and stairs, two-pack cabinets, extensive tiling and stone tops. The second home featured is situated on Point Nepean Road in Rye. The clients brief was to maximise the view from the upstairs living area and provide a private second living area for the family when visiting. To achieve this, Wayne created a large family room with a bar to the rear of the home which opens out to a large deck and garden zone. The spine of the home is a 2.4 metre wide hall running the full length downstairs from the entry to the family room. This allows for good separation and privacy for the four downstairs bedrooms as well as access to the laundry and security areas from the garage. The upper access is via an open polished timber and carpet staircase. The views have been maximised by utilising the rising contours at the front of the site and a streamlined roof complies with the local council height, restrictions. The main bedroom enjoys its private location at the rear of the upper storey whilst the kitchen/meals/family and deck dominate the front of the home, drawing in the bay views out to Blairgowrie and Sorrento. These areas have large commercial sliding and stack door units to maximise the outlook. The deck has a skirt with glass balustrade atop to provide comfort from wind and sound from the north. Lyndways has constructed almost 500 houses along the Mornington Peninsula, using a vast array of materials from stone to render, plywood, metal and more. Many homes have been designed for difficult sites and to capture bay or rural views. Lyndways has been building on the Mornington Peninsula for 24 years and has established a strong reputation for honest, reliable service; 75 per cent of all Lyndways projects are repeat or referred clients.
