The Mornington Peninsula is renowned for it’s beach front views, rolling vineyards and the prospect of escaping from the bustle of city living, making it the perfect location for this fi ve bedroom family home. This Lakeview residence, by Urban Solutions, is situated on a new estate and takes full advantage of its stunning park and farm land views.

Urban Solutions worked in close consultation with the client to provide a spacious, functional and inviting living environment, a complete indoor retreat that complements the family’s lifestyle. From a simple sketch, Urban Solutions designed a house to realise the client’s dreams.

The design of the house takes into consideration the south orientation of the block, utilising the natural light while maximising the use of passive solar heating and cross ventilation with respect to the design and locations of living spaces.

Particular attention was taken in the selection of materials such as timber, stone, glass and corrugated iron in order to harmonise the use of man made and natural materials creating an inviting aesthetic for which to come home. Welcomed by cypress pine pillars, you enter the house greeted by ascending timber stairs, with entry access to the double garage on the left and a master bedroom with full walk-in robe and ensuite to the right.

Specifically designed windows are positioned along the east façade to take full advantage of the morning winter sun and the natural light, to passively warm the open planned kitchen, living and dining areas. In addition provision have been made to minimise the effects of the summer sun by setting back the sitting room, garden courtyard, lounge and alfresco areas in order to be energy efficient in reducing heating and cooling costs.

Natural lighting of the upstairs billiard and family rooms by the fl oor to ceiling windows adds to the sense of a spacious living area. Wide glass stackable sliding doors open up the family room subtlety enticing the south facing glass balustrade balcony, embracing the park land views.

The lounge room opens out onto the alfresco with large panelled bi-fold doors, seamlessly encouraging the outdoor into the indoor living space. The landscaping supports the design of the house, highlighting its features and contributes to setting the design standard for the neighbouring houses.
