Lateral Building Design is a versatile building design company that can complete large or small projects. Whether you want a modest home in terms of size and finish, or you seek a grand and imposing design like the featured project, Lateral Building Design can accommodate your needs and create your dream house.

All Lateral Building Design’s projects prioritise functionality and adhere to clients’ briefs and budgets. For the spectacular home shown here, the clients did not provide a detailed brief, but sought a two-storey, 40-square home with views of the surrounding valley and a strong focus on entertaining family and friends. They also required a large entry, four bedrooms and a separate area for a home office, with its own entrance.

After ascertaining that a traditional, standout home would fulfil the brief, Lateral Building Design began planning the design. The company met all of the clients’ requirements, designing four large bedrooms, a grand and inviting entry, a formal living area and a kitchen/meals/family area overlooking the pool. Also overlooking the pool is a three-car garage with bi-fold doors that open out to an additional equivalent space. With polished floors and enough room to accommodate six cars, the area forms an impressive and spacious entertainment area.

Oriented to the north east, the home maximises passive solar energy, and also incorporates storage of rainwater for use in the home and pool.

Stonework was used throughout the house, along with complementary building materials that were selected by the client. A stunning circular entry with a glass ceiling and arch-shaped windows on the upper storey is an exquisite feature of the home, while the driveway splits in two, allowing access to the main entry or the office, as requested. A beautiful water feature greets visitors to the property.

Lateral Building Design ensured the home was set well back on the land to maximise views of the valley as required, and utilised the fall of the property in the design. The large block meant the location of the house, pool and garage was flexible and not restricted by offsets from boundaries.

Design difficulties were encountered when it came time to ensure as many rooms as possible featured valley outlooks and when creating the stunning circular entry and incorporating it into the overall design, but Lateral Building Design overcame these difficulties to create the unique and remarkable home.
