AN ARCHITECTURAL MASTERPIECE

DISTINCTIVE DESIGN

This stunning home boasts a unique layout and form, yet its greatest feature is its impressive environmentally-friendly credentials. Principally driven by solar orientation and the clients’ brief to capture and maximise the view towards the city skyline, the four-bedroom home spans 600m² and has solar roof panels, large underground water tanks, high performing LowE glass and double-glazed windows. Abundant natural light is let into the home, and several rooms have beautiful views to the city.

The clients wanted light-filled open-plan spaces that evoked feelings of tranquillity, as well as a connection between the indoors and outdoors, as they regularly entertain guests from overseas. For this reason, it was also important that the guest rooms were self-sufficient, with private bathrooms and amenities that were contained away from living areas.

Variances in volume and space add visual interest to the home’s striking architecture. The entry is structured around the internal water feature, which meanders and cascades around the suspended skybridge, which is framed under the trapezoidal glass roof, while a vaulted ceiling emanates from the glass roof, forming the vaulted ceiling above the dining area. This acts as the central node of the home, where all the spaces – including the main outdoor entertaining area – are linked.

In addition to designing the home in conjunction with the client, Arch10 was commissioned to construct and projectmanage the unique house. This provided a great working relationship and meant solutions were efficiently resolved and time, budget and quality requirements were met. It also facilitated fast-tracking of the project, including bulk excavation and earthworks being completed while design documentation was being developed.
