PRIME POSITION THREE DECADES OF EXPERIENCE This stunning two-storey home is situated in Arthur’s Seat in the Mornington Peninsula. The sprawling 15 hectare property boasts spectacular northern views over Port Phillip Bay, with the city skyline as its centrepiece, and additional vistas from the Dandenong Ranges through the headlands and striking orange cliffs of Mt Martha and Safety Beach to the heads at Point Nepean. When you have such an incredible site to work with, an equally amazing home is required, and that’s exactly what Thomas Anderson Design delivered. Designed by Thomas Anderson Design’s director, Shane Thomas, the house is best described as a resort, where every day feels like a holiday. On the first floor are two bedrooms with full ensuites and dressing rooms, a study/office space with a library, a kitchen with a working butler’s pantry, an open-plan family space, and the living and meals area. The enormous alfresco and entertaining deck are also located here, along with the drive through portico. Located on the ground floor are an additional two bedrooms, the main with a full ensuite and dressing room, as well as the gymnasium, laundry, billiard room with full bar, a kitchenette and a cellar. The seven-car showroom is connected to the billiard room by imposing seven metre-long sliding frameless glass doors. The alfresco outdoor entertaining area on this floor connects seamlessly with the horizon pool. Although the finished product is flawless, Thomas Anderson Design faced a considerable challenge when the clients approached the company to design their home. The husband sought a rustic ‘countrified’ feel, while his wife longed for a more contemporary home. The Thomas Anderson Design team described this brief as “a complex but extremely rewarding and interesting design palette” and used the opportunity to create a unique home that blends a country and contemporary aesthetic indoors and out. From the complex arrangements of the Colorbond corrugated rooflines and quarrystone feature walls to the crisp, clean curved rendered parapets and columns, this unique mix of rustic and modern design elements has resulted in a truly spectacular home that befits the incredible site it is built on. The homeowners were in agreement on one key thing – they wanted the property to incorporate a range of sustainable living features. There are underground water tanks on the property with a capacity to hold 200,000 litres of water, as well as an additional 50,000 litre above-ground tank, double-glazed windows and a 5-star energy rating on the home. Thomas Anderson Design has 30 years of experience collaborating with clients who seek individual design outcomes. The company’s designs are the combined result of considerable industry experience and the requirements of each client’s brief. The company builds a broad spectrum of projects, including town houses, apartments, restaurants, bars, consulting rooms and a range of other residential and commercial buildings. Directors Shane Thomas and Dennis Anderson continue to set a high standard for homes in Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and throughout the south-eastern suburbs. CONTACT |
