FRENCH PROVINCIAL SPLENDOUR FIVE DECADES OF EXPERIENCE The featured home by Norton Builders features stunning French provincial detailing and incorporates the clients’ request for a design that suits and fits in with busy family life. The brief required the first floor to accommodate the clients’ children and to have an ensuite, walk-in wardrobes in each bedroom, and a multipurpose living area, while the ground floor needed to consist of a main bedroom and northoriented living spaces looking out to the alfresco area. It was also necessary that the design incorporated a basement Norton Builders met with the clients numerous times prior to construction to ensure their needs were met. These meetings allowed the company to devise the foundation for the home’s design, which has ensured all living areas face north, maximising natural light and warmth on high traffic areas including the outdoor alfresco and swimming pool space. The cleverly-designed home not only incorporates all of the homeowners’ practical requests; it also seamlessly showcases classic French provincial style in both its interior and exterior. Norton Builders has ensured it’s just as easy for the living spaces to be employed for intimate living as well as entertaining large groups, making the home versatile and functional. The company also managed to fulfil a request for the front elevation of the house to appear as though it is a singlestorey home, concealing the fact that it is in fact double-storey. Despite the architectural challenges presented by a request of this nature, Norton Builders was able to take on this requirement and built a façade that presents as single-storey. To create an authentic French provincial aesthetic, the home features slate, wrought iron, rendering, ornamental cornices, parquetry floors, feature fireplaces, and marble in the bathrooms and kitchen. The home boasts feature lighting, architectural fencing and full landscaping. A stunning feature palm tree that was sourced from South Australia was selected as a centrepiece in the front yard and gives the home a distinctive, luxurious street appeal. Additionally, the home has exceptional green credentials. It has underground water tanks, while the zoned living spaces allow for reduced heating and cooling expenses.
