Built by Graeme Alexander Homes, this residence was designed as a family home for two parents and three children, with room for the growing family to expand in and enjoy for many years.

The property is situated on a 1100m² east-viewing battleaxe block. Located in Wheelers Hill, the site is surrounded by neighbours on all corners.

The primary objective in designing the house was to ensure privacy – a considerable challenge given the location of the land. This objective was achieved by blocking out certain areas with strategic use of roof shapes and room placements.

Carefully considered planting and landscaping was also a key part of attaining privacy for the clients’ family.

To ensure the beautiful surrounding views were maximised, an easterly outward view to the Dandenong Ranges and beyond was made a priority. This view is at its greatest over the stunning infinity-edge pool.

The home consists of four bedrooms, a study, two living zones and a central kitchen that flows on to an alfresco area with a garage, which is situated below the house. Upstairs, the master bedroom and parents’ retreat also face east. The house has a top-hat roof with highlight windows over the family kitchen area that allows for northern light ingress.

This building was constructed using readily available materials, with a rendered finish in muted earthy tones and WRC stained windows to soften the look. Ironbark posts and a touch of rock facing was also incorporated to add strength.
