MULTI -AWARD WINNING BUILDING DESIGN

Poised above an expansive suburban landscape, overlooking distant mountains, this featured home stands tall within its prime location. Design Unity has created a modern masterpiece boasting impressive views and acute design.

The client requested a light and spacious home with clean lines – providing simplicity while making a statement. To acomplish this, Design Unity created shared living spaces and wide ceiling-to-floor windows.

The home is one of a few modern residences in a tree lined, elevated street in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Its crisp white render façade is divided by a balanced combination of large windows and articulated forms, complementing the neighbouring properties.

The owners’ brief was further met by the home being physically merged into the environment, which makes the most of understanding its surrounding topography and determined the overall design.

Earthworks were fitted into the slope, creating a level platform to accommodate the entrance and secondary bedrooms. The first floor contains the living area, maximising the orientation of the north and to the mountain views.

A complication Design Unity faced during construction was a significantly sized tree situated in the middle of the site. Their skills were put to the test as the client desired to retain the tree. However, they worked around it without the slightest bit of damage.

The residence of 42 squares is decked in the most innovative appliances and materials on the market. It features water tanks, downlights throughout the home and is lightweight in construction with rendered lightweight cladding and split face brick.

Vibrant colour illuminates the kitchen, balanced by the white walls maintained throughout the home. The white retains simplicity and timelessness, giving Design Unity room to move with the décor. Outside, the landscaping is kept neat and comprised of Australian native trees and shrubs.
